ISOFS 2021 Conference to hold in Maputo Mozambique

The 8th International Conference of the International Society of Obstetric Fistula Surgeons (ISOFS) initially scheduled to be held from 19-20 November 2020 in Maputo, Mozambique is now to hold in March 10th  - 13th, 2021. This shift in the date is occasioned by the outbreak of the Corona virus Pandemic. The pre-Conference meeting will be on 8-9th March, 2021. 

The Conference is a unique opportunity to promote the highest standards for obstetric fistula care for women in a safe, effective, and ethical manner. Fostering collaboration between communities and health systems, enhanced knowledge on basic and clinical obstetric fistula research, and ethical standards and guidelines will be featured on the agenda.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are invited from intending participants for the International Society of Obstetric Fistula Surgeons Conference (ISOFS MAPUTO 2021). Abstracts submission  ends on 31st December, 2020.


“Obstetric Fistula, Unacceptable Challenge – End it Now”

Abstracts are invited from intending participants on the following Sub-themes:

1. Prevention of obstetric fistula

  • Safe delivery in Africa
  • The role of midwives in preventing obstetric trauma 

2.  Training and fistula

  • Basis for training fistula surgeons
  • Basic training in fistulas at universities and medical schools
  • Mandatory training in fistula surgery in residency programs in Urology, Gynecology and general surgery
  • Obstetric trauma or fistula what are the differences
  • ISOFS, FIGO and UNFPA to support training
  • The role of WACS and COSECSA in the training of surgeons
  • Training nurses to prevent, diagnose and refer obstetric trauma
  • Surgery technicians in the treatment of fistulas (Task shifting)
