The International Society of Fistula Surgeons (ISOFS) was proudly represented at the 45th Congress of the International Society of Urology (SIU) held in Edinburgh, Scotland, from October 29 to November 1, 2025.
ISOFS President Prof. Igor J. Vaz and Vice-President Prof. Serigne Magueye played prominent roles throughout the congress, contributing to multiple high-level sessions that underscored Africa’s growing leadership in urological innovation and fistula care.
Prof. Vaz delivered and chaired several impactful presentations, including the Pan-African Urological Surgeons Association (PAUSA) Symposium on “Obstetric Fistula in Africa: A New Continent Bladder”, and co-chaired the Master Videos Session titled “Invisible Battles in Female Pelvic Surgeries”. He also led a technical discussion on obstetric fistula repair (VVF) within the Interactive Session: Flaps and Grafts in Pediatric and Women’s Health.
In addition, Prof. Vaz served as a mentor in the Resident Mentoring Program, joining a distinguished panel of global experts from leading universities and hospitals. This participation highlighted the continued commitment of ISOFS to knowledge sharing, mentorship, and global collaboration in advancing urological surgery and women’s health across Africa and beyond.
Through their active engagement, Profs. Vaz and Magueye reaffirmed ISOFS’s mission to promote surgical excellence, research, and capacity building in the field of fistula repair—showcasing the strength and expertise of the African continent on the world stage.
